The Long Distance Focus Microscope - Videoscope for Visual and Video Observation, Measurement and Alignment
The IMF Series Microscopes are five distinct models of microscopes that allow continuous focus from 4.25" to infinity. Each model has its own magnification range that can be supplemented by the addition of various lens elements and adapters. In the Video mode, additional changes are possible by changing the Format of the Camera and the Monitor Size. The Basic magnification range of IMF-2 extends from 4X to 40X in the Visual Mode on the low end of the magnification range to Model IMF-10 with 60X to 600X in the Video Version. (This is measured with a 2/3" Format Camera and a 9" Monitor.) It can be doubled to 120X to 1200X by using a 1/2" Format Camera and a 12" Monitor. This Microscope-Videoscope series was designed by Titan Tool to function where it is impossible to use a conventional microscope because of long working distances combined with the higher magnifications. The five distinct optical systems consist of four to six different lens groups depending on magnification and whether it is to be used in the Visual or Video Version. A cross-hair reticle with concentric circles and lines on the vertical and horizontal axis can be encompassed in both the Video and Visual Models. This becomes a necessity for Alignment and Measuring. The Optical Systems were designed in the modular manner. It is a simple task to change a Vision System to Video by interchanging the top or last optical tube. Magnification is changed in the Vision System by the interchange of eyepieces with or without reticle. Video magnification is modified by the exchange of a 1X or 2X Video C Mount Tube. Additional magnification can be added by a 2X C Mount adapter above the 1X or 2X primary Video adapter to give a 2X or 4X magnification entering the camera. There is also a 2X adapter with a reticle available model # RARP-3. The basic optical system is in a horizontal plane with the center part rotating to focus from 4.25" to infinity. The secondary Optical System is vertical to make it easier for viewing and mounting to a camera. The total microscope is supported by a sturdy horseshoe shaped aluminum casting. The Infinity Focus Optical System is a sophisticated combination of elements and as such needs extra illumination on the work piece. This illumination should be by a Halogen or Xeon Light Source. The higher magnification the more light becomes necessary. The Infinity Focus Optical System was designed to be used for research and laboratory as well as quality control functions. It is the ideal unit to use in hostile or hazardous or hot environment such as a vacuum or pressure chamber or where it is impossible to be adjacent to the work piece because of obstructions in the way. If provided with a reticle, it can also be used for measurements of alignment, and if used in the Video Mode, the image can be photographed or fed into a computer for analyzing. When ordering the system, some distinct choices have to be made considering the options available for the system.
-
The proper magnification IMF System has to be selected considering the range of magnifications available. The highest magnification is always at the 4.25" minimum focal point. The higher the magnification, the more illumination becomes necessary.
-
A crosshair reticle can be offered in the primary Telescope Optical System at no extra charge. Please state when ordering if you desire this feature. This reticle is re-magnified by the secondary system so the lines are nice and heavy and easy to see. If you are ordering a higher magnification system, it may be more desirous to order the reticle in the eyepiece of the microscope or in the RARP-3 adapter. If you desire to see the entire reticle at a low magnification, we recommend using the Visual Tube System plus the TSTVA-12 Video Adapter. This system contains a reticle similar to the one in the RARP-3. The Optical Data is not included in the chart as it is similar to the 10X eyepiece and is easily compared to it at the minimum focal point of 4.25". Field of View is 33% and Depth of Field is 133% at Infinity. Magnification and Field of View are both 50% and Depth of Field is 60% of the 10X eyepiece.
-
The System can be ordered in the Visual or Video Mode. It is possible to interchange from one to the other by ordering a separate adapter sleeve (optical tube). This is the last optical component, and is the one that the eyepiece will fit into or has the C Mount thread for the Video Camera. The Visual system is differentiated from the Video by adding a suffix E for Visual or V for Video. Example: IMF-2E for Visual and IMF-2V for Video. The Visual System comes standard with a 20X Hyugenian Eyepiece. The Video System comes standard with the VATZ-1 1X Video Adapter.
-
In the Visual Mode, These extras are available:
1) A separate 10X Hyugenian eyepiece without reticle.
2) A separate 10X Kelner eyepiece with reticle. This reticle has cross hairs on the vertical and horizontal axis. Small division lines on both axis with a concentric circle after every 10 divisions. For quality control purposes, these reticles can be used for measuring or alignment. If used for measuring, the reticle divisions have to be calibrated with a scale or master ruler in the same plane as the object to be measured. The alternate method is to mount the whole IMF System on an X-Y Table or an X-Y-Z System governed by a micrometer or digital scales, and measure in this manner.
3) A separate 20X Kelner Eyepiece with reticle same as in D2 with the same usage but at a higher magnification.
-
E) In the Video Mode these options are Available:
1) Order a separate VATZ-2 Video Adapter. This doubles all magnification of the VATZ-1 Video Adapter that comes standard.
2) Order a separate 2XL Adapter. This redoubles the magnification of the VATZ-1 to 2X and the VATZ-2 to 4X. This adapter screws onto the C Mount thread on the end of the VATZ-1 or VATZ-2 and has a male C Mount thread that fits directly into the end of the C Mount of the Camera.
3) Order an RARP-3 Reticle Adapter. This is identical to the 2XL Adapter as explained in E2 in magnification except it has a reticle similar as is explained in D2. It can be used for the same Measuring or Alignment functions as explained in the 10X and 20X eyepiece with the calibrated reticles. NOTE: It is almost impossible to use the VATZ-2 or RARP-3 Reticle Adapter with models IMF-5V and IMF-10V as the Depth of Field becomes extremely shallow and back work piece illumination becomes necessary. The image is hazy and not crisp.

SIZE:
Horizontal Section: Optical Tube with Focusing Section 8" Long 1.85" Diameter
Vertical Section: Optical Tube 10.5" Long 1.5"
Diameter Horseshoe Base: 4.5" Wide 6.00" Long 3.00" High

Weight: 2 lb 10.5 ounces
NOT PRACTICAL in table above means image is too hazy or Depth of Field is so shallow that it is extremely hard to pick up a workable image.
*Using a standard video and Air Force Resolution Chart. **L/MM means Lines per M.M.
*** All values for field of view in above table were figured for a 2/3" Format Camera. For 1/2", multiply values by .72 and for 1/3" Format, multiply by .54.
